ABOUT OUR CHAPTER - the "first chapter"

THE KIngs Point Club of WashinGton D.C.

Welcome to the new Kings Point Club of Washington, D.C. (KPCWDC) Alumni Chapter Webpage. Originally established in 1953 as the first USMMA Alumni Chapter, our chapter continues to build on the unique alumni network in our nation's capital.

About Our Chapter - Mission Statement

"The Alumni of the United States Merchant Marine Academy and its predecessor organization, the United States Merchant Marine Cadet Corps, residing in the area of the Nation's Capitol, in order to advance and aid the purposes of the United States Merchant Marine Academy on a national scale, and to foster good will among Alumni, to strengthen the bond between the Alumni and the Academy, and to promote the professional and educational development of the United States Merchant Marine and the allied Naval Arts, united to form a local Chapter and have established the Charter of the Kings Point Club of Washington, D.C., a Chapter of the United States Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association Incorporated."

The Mission Continues Today with Migration to Our New Website

Notably, we are excited to introduce to our members, recent and long-standing, this upgraded communication tool. I encourage you all to utilize it's capabilities to the maximum extent possible, to include interactive dialogue, keeping up with current Kings Point issues, paying membership dues and/or registering/pre-paying for upcoming events just to name a few.

Over the last several years, our Alma Mater and our local Chapter have faced unique challenges such as rebounding from Sea Year, USMMA accreditation obstacles, maintaining our impactful position on legislative affairs, supporting alumni relations improvement, diversifying USMMA recruitment efforts, repairing the external environment for all Cadets and continuing to do our part to rekindle the Maritime community in the D.C. area.

With our very own leading from the front as Maritime Administrator and Superintendent, we ask for your continued support in fulfilling our motto of "Acta Non Verba - Deeds not Words". Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do in helping to maintain a strong focus on our Washington, D.C. Chapter's revitalization efforts, to include increasing overall local and national presence.  Here's to another 75-years of all things KP!

Fraternally Yours,

President - Matt Van Echo, '00
